Before, During, After: Reflection Strategies for Learning That Lasts

What if everything you know about reflection is backwards? Most of us save it for the end—a quick debrief, maybe a plus/delta. But our brains forget fast, and by the time we ask "So, what did you learn?" most of it is already gone. Weave reflection before, during, and after the learning, and you work with the brain, not against it. Participants retain more, apply it faster, and remember what matters. You'll walk away knowing why WHEN you reflect matters as much as what you reflect on.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  1. Add reflection activities at three points in your training: before learning starts (pre-flection), during the session, and after for follow-up.
  2. Choose at least 3 proven reflection techniques (like Four Corners, retrieval practice, or spaced reflection) aligned with your content.
  3. Practice retrieval and reflection methods that support retention.
