We've all been there: sitting in a presentation, staring at a chart or graph that might as well be in another language. Cluttered graphs, chaotic charts, and misunderstood data are roadblocks to effective communication. Let's face it, our brilliant insights deserve better! Mastering data visualization isn't just a skill— it's an asset. Imagine captivating your audience, making complex information easily digestible, and nailing that crucial deal or proposal.

In this session, we willl explore the art and science of effective visual storytelling with data. By the end of the session, you will learn:

  • How to avoid the most common Data Visualization mistakes that contribute to poor communication
  • Simple Data Visualization best practices for clarity and effective storytelling
  • How to choose the right type of chart or graph for your data
  • Tools you can use to create simple to complex Data Visualizations
  • Evidence-based Visual Design principles that attend to cognitive load

Jennifer Grimes, Instructional Designer + Graphic Designer + eLearning Developer + Educator

Jennifer Grimes is a Graphic Designer, eLearning Developer, and Educator. Jen combines her love of graphic design, UI/UX design, and instructional design to help L&D professionals create transformative learning experiences. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Graphic Design department of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Prior to founding Nektar Design in 2007, Jen was Senior Art Director at the marketing firm Arras Group (Cleveland, Ohio), and Senior Designer at the Washington Hospital Center (Washington, D.C.) in the Public Affairs & Marketing department. She enjoys developing her technical skills as an eLearning Developer and is always on the lookout for new ways to make her next training course better than the last.
